In EVE Online, gatecamps are a fact of life.  A gatecamp is defined as a hostile group of players that sit at a stargate with the intention of catching unsuspecting ships attempting to use said gate.  There are many different types of gatecamps depending on the campers' goals and the area of space they are camping. Tripwire is an open-source wormhole mapping tool used by EvE-Scout Rescue, the Anoikis Division, and Signaleer line members that allows pilots to document, build, and map wormhole chains.  Through the use of collaborative "masks", pilots can share their wormhole maps with other pilots to collectively coordinate their efforts for various purposes.  While Tripwire seems complicated to use at first, various guides are available to help demystify this useful tool:

EVE Online generates a killmail for every in-game player ship destroyed in New Eden (both via PvE and PvP).  Killmails contain a wide variety of useful information about the ship loss and are a great learning tool to find out "what happened".  

Out-of-game public killboards attempt to aggregate and present this killmail information for all the ship losses that occur throughout New Eden.  One of the most popular public killboards is zKillboard, which can be used to:
* check the activity in a particular system
* gather intel about other capsuleers and corporations
* research ship fits
* and much more!
