How Can I Help the Corp?

Signal Cartel Leadership gets the nicest emails from members new and old, vets and newbros, highly visible and more quiet members asking how they can help the corp out because they like what we are about and want to support it. We love this attitude and appreciate support of all kinds, so we figured a few suggestions might be helpful.

  1. Be one of us. This seems obvious, but it's meant in the larger sense: when representing as your Signal Cartel character, conduct yourself in a manner that exemplifies our Credo. This extends to the conversations you have with other players in-game and elsewhere (Twitter and r/eve are two examples), actions you take (helping others, being respectful, etc.), advice you offer to our members and other players (and the tone you use when offering it), and perhaps most importantly, the intent behind all your actions in-game as a member of Signal Cartel.
  2. Use corp resources. It might sound weird to say you should take in order to help the corp. However, if you're a new player, becoming financially self-sufficient in the game will provide you with a sense of achievement and allow you to explore fearlessly because you'll know you can replace the ships and stuff you'll inevitably lose. This leads to confidence and expertise, and THAT is what you can contribute to our newbros who join later. The free explo ships, Welcome Packages, and other resources provided by the corp can help you get there. USE THEM--that's what they are there for!
  3. Adopt a newbro. If you click with a newbro, consider letting them tag along on a few exploration runs and showing them the ropes for a few days to help them get a jumpstart on things like situational awareness, mechanics of d-scanning, how to probe, how to hack, and so forth. Yeah sure, it's useful to point them at guides and tutorials, but a friendly personal mentor while actually doing explo things is still one of the best ways to learn.
  4. Create useful things. Visual or text guides and tutorials for simple to complex tasks in-game, billboard ads, helpful forum posts, Credo fireside chat recordings, etc. Make sure to send Leadership an email with links if you create stuff like this so it can be added to the The Explorer's Compendium or elsewhere as appropriate.
  5. Organize activities. Fleets, training exercises, treasure hunts, contests, rescue cache seeding blitzes, Hugs container deployment in various places -- use your imagination! Whether simple one-time activities or more sustained initiatives, the more of you who create content for our members, the better! We have this saying here: "Be the content you want to see in Signal." Basically that means if you wish there was this fleet or that, or this event or that, or this program or that, then make it happen yourself (within the bounds of the Credo of course; feel free to check with Leadership--or even run it by folks in Alliance chat or a forum post if you aren't sure). If you're running an event and looking for prizes, hit us up. We get donations of things earmarked for just such events, so there is usually stuff lying around that the corp can kick in.
  6. Participate in our programs/ops. Participate in the EvE-Scout Thera scanning endeavor, EvE-Scout Rescue Caches, Loot Buyback, and Storm Tracker programs, to name a few. Join Crikey Freight and do some space trucking on an out of corp alt. Join a fleet. Hang out on comms or our Discord server. You'll find links explaining all of these and more in the The Explorer's Compendium and the DII.
  7. Donate stuff. So many of you give materially to EvE-Scout, the corp, and individual members in need. It is truly appreciated! If you want to give to Signal Cartel, the most helpful things might be fitted T1 explo ships (we do go through a lot of those) in Thera, Zoohen, Gelhan, and Saisio. That stuff can be dropped right into the Shared Stuff hangar (even if you don't have rights to LOOK at that hangar, you can always still drop stuff into it). Our station quartermasters can then place it on corp contracts in accordance with inventory management guidelines to mitigate risk of theft. ISK is always the right size and color (in-game, right click Signal Cartel and choose Give Money...be sure to select the Donation account of the corp wallet). Anything is welcomed and will ultimately help support our programs and special events/activities. It might interest you to know that your leadership does not "pay themselves" from donations. Donations are used to fund contests, events, giveaways, rewards to those working tirelessly in staff support positions (recruiters, for example), and corp overhead.
  • Related: Our humble and talented Johnny Splunk foots the monthly real money bill for server costs for hosting EvE-Scout, the forums, and some other things out of his own pocket (thanks, but offers of free hosting on your servers is not something he wants to consider at this point). Donating directly to him--maybe something outlandishly blingy or ridiculous to lose on his Twitch stream?--is encouraged (he'll probably not be keen on us for suggesting this but too bad; we're REBELS). Yes, we do play EVE differently, don't we? 😛

So there you have it, as a start. We're sure we've overlooked some things and will update as needed based on feedback.

To everyone who supports the corp in these and other ways: THANK YOU. Please please please send Leadership an EVEmail when you donate ISK or stuff; it can be difficult or impossible to notice otherwise in the avalanche of detail that is corp admin. And we do like to give out medals to recognize our in-corp doers and donators. ❤
