Policy:Corp Voice Comms Guidelines

Voice comms are part of gaming life for most players. They make communications during fleets and events easy and fast and provide an opportunity for casual socializing.

We do not require members to be on voice comms when logged in, as is the policy in many corps. However, FCs can require that participants in their fleets be on voice comms either in a listening-only or speaking capacity; such requirements should be announced in the post providing details about the fleet. Voice activation on comms should be set to PTT (push to talk), which means that a microphone is activated by a hotkey. This is normally set through the configuration or settings for the voice comms tool being used. Voice-activated microphones are annoying and tend to echo back whatever is coming through speakers to everyone in the channel. Pilots who fail to comply with a request to set the mic to PTT might be muted by an FC or an admin.

Our Discord server is used for out-of-game chat for both text and voice. Some voice channels are available to everyone and some are limited only to those with appropriate roles. Discord can be used in a browser or downloaded and installed as an app, which lets a user manage membership on multiple servers.

We discourage use of other platforms for Signal Cartel organized fleets and events because, in a sense, it dilutes the sense of community, and it is Leadership's preference to be admins and in control of the platforms we offer our members. However, members are free to use other applications if there is a good reason to do so.
