Policy

Using special "Proving Ground Filaments" to access the Abyssal Proving Grounds is prohibited for Signal Cartel pilots, as use of these filaments initiates a PVP encounter 100% of the time. The Abyssal Proving Grounds are usually periodic events staged by CCP. Click here for an example.

Clarification

The use of Abyssal filaments to enter into Abyssal Deadspace is allowed as this is a PVE combat challenge.

Rationale

Most combat scenarios we find in New Eden offer the opportunity for others to decide to engage us or not. If we are engaged, decisions in the moment will influence how the encounter will end. It’s in these decisions and moments that we get to test our reputation. We get to see if others trust us and we get a chance to further demonstrate that we should be trusted. It’s these moments that make being a part of our group so unique and special.

In Abyssal Proving Grounds (Abyssal deadspace combat arenas), the interaction is much different than most other scenarios our members might find themselves in. Our position is that a decision to embrace combat is made when a capsuleer decides to enter the arena, because in order to achieve the objective (get the loot), that capsuleer must be willing - in advance - to destroy any ships piloted by other capsuleers who enter the arena. We interpret this as an intention to do harm to another capsuleer.

Abyssal deadspace arenas don’t consider affiliations or reputations. It is certain that at least one capsuleer will suffer. Should one of our members enter the arena, win or lose, it is difficult to consider all of the possible consequences. Our goal as an alliance, and as espoused in the Credo, is to avoid intentionally harming other capsuleers. By abstaining from Abyssal deadpsace arenas, we can avoid a situation where other capsuleers feel betrayed by our reputation and social contract. We can also free other capsuleers from the requirement of harming us to achieve the arena objective, which requirement might be a conflict for them as well, given the many, many instances of rep tank that our members have and no doubt will continue to enjoy in future.

Leadership has carefully considered the potential ramifications of our members actively pursuing success in Abyssal deadspace combat arenas. We believe that their doing so can risk our carefully nurtured reputation and negatively impact our ability to preserve and further our alliance goals.
